Treat
yourself to something good

Exceptionally
stressed feet need a daily dose of attention and care.
Only healthy feet are beautiful feet. Washing, drying
and proper nail trimming are important elements of healthy
foot care. Especially foot baths with special salts are
very soothing and relaxing.
After washing, feet should be dried thoroughly because
otherwise athlete's foot germs could find ideal conditions,
especially in the spaces between the toes. Rubbing your
feet with a mild skin cream keeps them smooth and prevents
rough and dry skin.
Toe nails can be cut especially well after taking a bath.
Make sure to cut them straight and not to leave edges
or barbs. You should treat your nails with a nail file
after cutting them. Now is the perfect time to remove
remaining calluses.
The
BIRKENSTOCK
foot buffer does a great job for these purposes.
All BIRKENSTOCK foot care products mentioned above are
available in a BIRKENSTOCK-Shop.

Athlete's
foot and nail fungus
|
Athlete's
foot and nail fungus occur more often than expected. According
to recent research over 30% of the population are affected
by this unpleasant skin disease. The fungus can grow especially
well on moist skin. Especially the spaces between the
toes are likely to be affected by this condition. The
fungus spreads from here and causes unpleasant itching.
If not treated properly, the infection can reach the nail
quickly. Don't hesitate to consult a doctor.
Infection often happens in swimming pools, saunas and
gyms.
Use the disinfection possibilities available there.
Thoroughly dry your feet after washing.
Healthy and dry feet are most resistent against infection.
|
If
your feet are especially stressed by your job, we recommend
regular contrast baths.
These baths do a good job with circulatory disturbances
too.
Your doctor will be glad to advise you. The water of your
contrast bath should cover half your calves.
|
You
need two foot soaker tubs, one filled with warm water
(96,8 °F - 100,4 °F), the other with cold water
(53,6 °F - 64,4 °F).
|
|
|
 |
First put your legs into the warm water for 3-5 minutes,
then 10 seconds into the cold water. Repeat the process
2-3 times and finish the procedure with the cold water.
In the end, grant your feet a special treat:
massage your feet and legs with massage fluid.
You'll notice how rough and stressed skin becomes smooth
and how blood circulation is stimulated.
|
Foot
exercises have proven to be quite advantageous for stimulating
blood circulation and maintaining your feet's health.
Massage the soles of your feet!
In former times feet were massaged by walking barefoot
on grass, sand or gravel. To massage the soles of your
feet, simply roll your foot energetically on a tennis
ball or a water bottle. The massage positively affects
your complete nervous and blood circulation system through
the reflex zones of the soles of your feet. Another way
to massage your feet are BIRKENSTOCK's popular Noppy-sandals.
They massage your feet while walking. |
| Another
kind of foot exercise is given by BIRKENSTOCK's sandal
Madrid. In order to support their natural function, your
feet need to alternately tense up and relax. The special
design of the Madrid style allows a relaxing foot movement.
|
|
When the heel is lifted from the footbed, the pressure
moves over the balls to the feet, causing the toes to
make a gripping movement. This process alternately tenses
and relaxes the whole foot and calf musculature.
|
  |
Additional
exercises can be done while sitting. Perform circulating
moves with your feet. Try to grab and pick up objects,
like a small branch or a teatowel with your toes.
Some of the exercises need some practice. If you feel
pain during the exercises, we recommend consulting a doctor
about exercises that are particularly suitable for you.
